WHAt IS Permanent Makeup?
WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW BEFORE BOOKING MY APPOINTMENT?
SO, WHAT IS IT?
Permanent makeup is a form of cosmetic tattooing, also known as micro-pigmentation. It is a cosmetic technique where pigment is inserted into the skin to resemble makeup, or hair-like strokes (for brows). It is typically achieved using a machine or a manual hand-held tool to permanently enhance the eyebrows, lips, eyes and body.
Where will my appointment take place and How much does it cost?
As an apprentice currently working at Renlysa Artistry in North Chelmsford, Massachusetts, my pricing as of now is $349.00 for the first session of any permanent makeup appointment, and $179.00 for the required touch-up appointment 6-8 weeks later. This pricing will change/increase once I am performing these services out of my salon in Easthampton, Massachusetts come springtime of 2025.
What types of permanent Makeup do you offer?
Microblading - a precision hair stroke technique done with a manual hand-held tool to create a very light natural look. can also include manual shading between the hair strokes to create a denser look. this technique is ideal for normal/dry skin types and does not work as well for oily skin types.
Powder Ombre Brow - a shading technique done by machine that creates a powdery and more filled-in look to the brows. results can be more light, natural, and pixelated or more dark and dense depending on preference. this technique lasts longer, requires fewer touch-ups than microblading, and is suitable for all skin types.
Combination Brow - a combination of both microblading and powder brow techniques, creating the look of a few hair strokes added to the front and then blended into a shaded, filled-in brow. results can be more natural and pixelated or dark and dense depending on client preference.
Lip Blush - a machine shading procedure that enhances the color, shape, and symmetry of the lips. results can be a natural tint or vivid color to the lips depending on preference.
Can Anyone get permanent makeup?
Not everyone is a candidate for a permanent makeup procedure due to health and safety concerns or medical conditions. Before booking an appointment, please thoroughly read the “Contraindications of Permanent Makeup“ page (click the link) to ensure you are a candidate for the procedure. Certain medical conditions are accepted with a doctor’s note. You will also be able to read over these contraindications when you fill out the required health information on your digital intake and consent form before scheduling your appointment.
Are there any risks?
Permanent makeup has its known and unknown complications. There may be a certain amount of discomfort or pain associated with the procedure. Other possible complications or consequences include but are not limited to: infections, scarring, inconsistent color, flares, and spreading, fanning or fading of pigments, allergic reaction, minor and temporary bleeding, bruising, redness, or other discoloration and/or swelling.
Fever blisters may occur on the lips following lip procedures in individuals prone to this condition.
Fading or loss of pigment may occur.
Secondary infection in the area of the procedure rarely occurs but is not impossible.
Corneal abrasions are a rare side effect after an eyeliner procedure.
The color of the pigment may be modified slightly due to the undertone, color, and health of the skin.
Having any skin treatments, laser hair removal, plastic surgery, or other skin-altering procedures may result in adverse changes to the permanent cosmetics.
Skin/Wound infections are uncommon but not impossible. Every tool used at Jessica Sarah Beauty is pre-sterilized, disposable, and disposed of after use. Cross-contamination procedures are strictly followed. Wound infections are possible during the healing process primarily if you do not strictly adhere to your recommended aftercare instructions.
What Can I expect from my results?
In general, permanent makeup will ALWAYS be present, however, it does fade over time and that timeframe can vary from person to person. Skin type, natural cell renewal, lifestyle, UV light, health, and the immune system are all affecting factors. Permanent makeup can take MULTIPLE sessions before desired results are received. It is extremely recommended to book your following touch-up appointment within 6-10 weeks of your first appointment. This session is required and meant to perfect your PMU.
Can you cover up existing permanent makeup?
Covering old PMU tattoos is possible, but they must be at least 60% faded. There is no way to determine this over the phone and you must schedule an in-person consultation or video call prior to booking an appointment if you have had previous work done elsewhere. It is usually best to consider tattoo removal before scheduling a cover-up or correction.
is there anything I need to do before my appointment?
Yes! Just like there is an aftercare process, there is also a precare process that is important for you to follow before coming into your appointment. Please be sure to thoroughly read all of the “Appointment Precare” (click the link) before scheduling your appointment. You will also be able to read these instructions when you fill out your digital form before booking.
What can I expect during and after the procedure?
You will be numbed during the majority of the procedure, so the level of pain is minimized. However, the level of discomfort can vary from person to person and you should not expect the procedure to be painless, BUT there should not be a point where the pain becomes unbearable. Thanks to the latest anesthetic creams, the discomfort is normally minimal. Some will feel vibrating or scratching, and some may feel nothing at all.
The healing process after a permanent makeup procedure varies from client to client based on many factors. Some of the most common things clients can expect after the procedure are:
* Tenderness in the area
* Pink or redness around the affected area
* Swelling
* Thickening and darkening of the area
* Moderate to thick scabbing 3-4 days after procedure
* Scabs will begin to flake off anytime between days 5-10
* After scabs flake off, pigment color and/or strokes will look light, grey, and blurry
*After the area is healed fully (4-6 weeks after procedure) the pigment will return to full color
A detailed aftercare instruction bag will be provided to you after your procedure. Not following aftercare properly may jeopardize the chances of a successful procedure.
what if I am allergic to nickel or anesthetic?
Topical anesthetic, nickel in tattoo needles, or certain pigments may trigger allergic reactions in rare cases and allergies to any of those materials are considered a contraindication. Please schedule a patch test 24 - 48 hours before the procedure if there are concerns about a reaction. A patch test does NOT completely guarantee that an allergic reaction will not occur.
